1. How does one qualify for support from United Way of Perry County?
All United Way of Perry County partners must meet the following United Way Standards.
- Be a not-for-profit organization 501 (c)(3) that is health and human services oriented
- Have their programs and finances reviewed annually by United Way of Perry County
- Have an established Board of Directors and by-laws governing the board
2. Which partners are supported by the United Way of Perry County?
In 2008, the United Way of Perry County will help fund: American Red Cross; Anderson Woods, Inc.; Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Perry County; Buffalo Trace Council Boy Scouts; Cannelton Schools Prevention program; Crisis Connection; Companion Care and Hospice Programs at Perry County Memorial Hospital; Perry County 4-H; Girl Scouts of Raintree Council; Martin’s Cloak Food Pantry; Perry Central Family Outreach Program; Perry County Council on Aging; Perry County Even Start; Salvation Army; SIRS-Link-N-Go Program; Visiting Nurse Association; Widow’s Barrel Food Pantry; and YMCA.
3. Who decides which and how much money is distributed to the partners?
Members of our community serve on the Community Investment committee to help review the applicants’ finances and programs. Applicants meet with the Community Investment committee in person to review their program. At the end of the process, the CI committee makes funding recommendations to the Board of Trustees who then vote on the recommendations.
4. How much of the money raised goes to supporting the partners?
Even though the United Way of Perry County is a not-for-profit organization, there are still expenses involved to run their programs and campaign and to pay its staff. The Board of Trustees work very hard to find ways of cutting costs and keep expenses at a minimum. We are committed to this community and are able to keep 97% of the funds raised here in the Perry County community. Every year we are able to fund our partners with anywhere from $65,000-$80,000 depending in the success of the fundraising campaign
5. Why give money to United Way of Perry County?
Well, the biggest reason is because everyone wants to feel like they make a difference and giving to the United Way combines your gift with others to make a bigger difference. Your United Way is locally run and helps people you know, your neighbors, co-workers, and relatives live a better life here in Perry County. .
6. Do you have to give money?
No, although money is the best vehicle in making a difference, you can donate your time as well to any number of the activities United Way of Perry County sponsors such as the Day of Caring, Stuff the Bus, or the Holiday Helpers United program.
