United Way of Perry County Events to enjoy!
Stuff The Bus – Volunteers accepted donations of much needed school supplies for children who may not otherwise be able to have the provisions needed to start the new school year.
Election Day Food Drive – A countywide food drive is conducted on Election Day by the United Way of Perry County, Catholic Charities, Widow’s Barrel Food Pantry, Adventist Community Services, Council of Agencies Food Pantry in Tell City, Martin’s Cloak Food Pantry in Siberia, and Jasper’s Food Pantry in Cannelton food pantries.
Annual Meeting – each year an annual meeting is held to which all donors are invited. At this meeting, new board members are elected and yearly reports are given. It is a time to celebrate what has been done in the past year and a time to look forward to the upcoming year.
Community Investment Day – in the spring, non-profit organizations apply for funding. Advisory panels made up of Board members and community volunteers listen to the requests, then the board makes the funding distribution commitments.
Days of Caring – May is the month for our annual Spring Day of Caring while we hold the Youth Day of Caring in November. In each, the United Way of Perry County lines up volunteers from the community to do much needed work for their funded partners and other non-profit organizations of Perry County.
National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive – we participate with the area postal department in a national food drive that assists area food pantries. Community members leave non-perishable food items in their mailboxes for their mail carriers to pick up.
Fundraising Drive 2008– Fundraising Drive 2008 will kick off in August with a Pacesetters Campaign and extend into the fall through October 24th. We anticipate another great year under the leadership of co-chairs Rita Mahoney of Old National Bank and Debbie Elder of Tell City Troy Township School Corporation.
Holiday Helpers United – Christmas assistance for families in need is coordinated by United Way volunteers and other agencies in Perry County. This much needed coordination ensures that all families who request help are provided with warm clothing, Christmas gifts, and food for their children are assisted.
Castles of Cans – Castles of Cans food drive and canned food sculpture event was held to glean donations for out local food coalition pantries. The event resulted in over 2,500 pounds of food and the total will be used as a match for the Feinstein Foundation grant that awards a share of one million dollars to hunger serving agencies across the nation.
Power of Youth Council - Power of Youth Council is an initiative to teach high school sophomores, juniors and seniors how to be changemakers in their community through philanthropy, volunteerism, grantmaking and leadership. This program is a collaboration between the United Way of Perry County and the Perry County Community Foundation.
The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program - The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program encourages low-income seniors to purchase nutritious, locally grown produce which, in turn, helps support our community’s farmers, by providing $24 worth of checks from the Indiana Department of Health. The program is administered locally by the United Way of Perry County.
FamilyWize - This free FamilyWize prescription drug discount card saves an average of 20-30% on the cost of prescription drugs for people with no insurance and for medicine not covered by an insurance plan or Medicare. For more information and to print a free card for yourself, family members, friends and co-workers go to www.FamilyWize.org. This card is being provided free of charge as a community service by our United Way and the FamilyWize Partnership.
